Mother's Day

I'm sure there have been several events that have happened since the last blog update; the purchase of a "miracle blanket" which has lead to more peaceful nights, a trip to Chuck-E-Cheezes with his cousins, some R&R with his dad (hi!), who knows what else...however, we'll assume all of that is minor in comparison to today - one of the most jam packed days of his life (and possibly most important - read on!).

We started the morning off which the realization that Alex didn't wake up on his own at all last night; I (steven) woke him up around 1:30 to make sure he didn't go more than 5 hours without eating, and then put him back to bed - he woke up at 6:00ish; ultimately, an amazing night and one I hope to replicate in the days, weeks, months, and years ahead (i get to sleep until 10AM again sometime. . . right?)

So, with a full tummy and a peaceful night's sleep, it was off to church for the first time.

I'm not going to lie; i was more than a 'little nervous' - i was scared. It was the moment of truth - when the rubber meets the road - when David meets Goliath...ok, maybe not that big of a deal, but I certainly didn't want to be the ones at church on mother's day with the screaming kid; I mean, surely jess wouldn't feel very "Motherly" and what about me? I have a "fun loving" reputation to uphold! So we put Alex in what is 'most fitting' for a child's first visit to church (a sweater vest!) and prayed he'd just pass out. One word summarizes the first church service: Success!

After church, it was off to visit "Grandma and Grandpa" (my parents). Alex was held by several of his cousins, and fed by Great Grandma Elsie. I gotta say - and maybe i'm a bit biased - but that baby sure is full of love.

We finished out the day at Grandma and Grandpa's with a pretty neat groupshot of all of "Gread Grandma Elsies" great-grand-children. Just try to get 6 kids all under six years old to look at the camera, smile, and not blink - this was the best one i took.

After visiting with the Earhart's (and Owens' - check our their take (and pictures!)of the day over at their blog), we went to visit Grams and Papa Mark (Jesisca's parents). We had a couple of photo shoots which will be posted later.

Overall, a pretty packed mother's day - a quick 'shout out' to Jessica who has proven to be as good of a mother as she is a wife. I love you, Jess.

I never realized how demanding the job is until this last month - 'thanks' to all the moms out there. Happy mother's day!

You had me laughing about going to church. We can totaly relate. We are now at the stage where Mark is loving the sound of his own voice. Cute baby screams, it always seems louder too when someone is praying.. :-)JRG
