Last Sunday (the 5th) we had Alex's first birthday party. All of his cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and great-grandparents were in attendance. A good time was had by all (see pictures below), and he got some pretty cool stuff, too.
As far as new things go - Alex has really gotten brave with letting go of things and standing still on his own, and has possibly taken a step (the jury is still out on whether it was a step or his leg was out while he fell...). He has also started playing in our closets - this is his new favorite thing. He loves to open and close the sliding closet doors and get completely in the closet, close both doors (apparently he's not afraid of the dark...), then walk through the closet and come out the other door. It's pretty cute :)
Lots of pictures today, don't say I didn't warn you...

Closets are fun!

Now you see me....

Now you don't...

"Here I am mom!"

Mmmm, tasty

Strategically placed bath tub...

He actually crawled off of the blanket and went exploring on his own
Alex loves post-it notes. So we play this game where I stick one on his head then sing "One little indian boy"...

Is it wrong that sometimes I do this at the store with my grocery list? >.>

Snuggling before bed

Playing with Mom's keys... He looks so cute in his overalls!

Mom came up for her birthday and had lunch with GG, Alex, and I

Playing on the floor trying to get a particular photo... This isn't it.

He sits like this a lot - one leg under him and one leg forward.
Now for the Birthday pictures:

The Cake - Amaretto flavored from McCarthur's

Mmm, cake.

After the cake - getting cleaned up

The Spectators
(Video to come soon!)

All of the kids had their own candle to blow out

Mom and Layton - The poor guy fell and cut his lip open at the party

Presents...

...presents...

...and more presents

Shelley and the food

Wesley and Steve - I love his little sailor's outfit. He had a matching hat on earlier.

The Owens... I have where the kids look great, and one where Chris and Shelley look great... Doh!

Playing with chalk and bubbles outside

His new backpack/leash

After the party we tied a balloon to Alex's arm and he loved it

Ready to crash after everyone left

Yesterday it was 60 degrees - today it snowed like a blizzard, but didn't stick

After all of the new toys he got yesterday, what's the one thing he carries around the house and will not put down? Chapstick.

He LOVES the balloons!

You can even snuggle them!

He hasn't popped one yet, fortunately...

Oh how wonderful;) I love all the photos;) you did a great job, I didn't even see you taking pictures of the group, while he was eating;) good job on that one.
Happy Birthday Alex,
Grandma D and Grandpa P:)
Actually, Amber took all of the pictures during the presents and the cake... I'm not skilled enough to be two places at once :)
